I’m Anahi Gonçalves (26), Brazilian-born and Lisbon-based since 2018.
My artistic trajectory became more concrete at that same time, when I began my studies in Communication Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. During this period, I explored a wide range of mediums, including publishing, ceramics, metals, illustration, and graphic design.
I quickly fell in love with sculpture and the exploration of the human body, a practice that allowed me to understand and intentionally distort silhouettes in a sensitive and intuitive way. At the same time, within Design, I was consistently drawn to Fashion. This interest led me to research and produce editorial design with a strong focus on fashion magazines, where image, narrative, and visual rhythm became central to my work.
In 2023, I joined an artists’ collective and co-founded a studio in the center of Lisbon called Sala de Estar. The project emerged from a desire to engage more directly with the city’s growing and effervescent art scene. Sala de Estar became a space for artists to work, connect, and exhibit, hosting a diverse range of practices; from painting and photography to tattooing, music, and design.
It was also within Sala that I continued to develop my own practice, focusing primarily on ceramic sculpture and painting. That same year, I presented my first solo exhibition, 32 Is Not Enough, at Mato Atelier. During this intense creative period, I became increasingly involved in editorials and photoshoots, many of which took place in the studio, and was recommended for my first professional experience in styling.
Since my first role as a stylist assistant, I have worked continuously with the same team, building a strong and meaningful dynamic that has deeply shaped my approach. This process allowed me to refine my own visual language beyond purely commercial contexts and to better understand styling as an extension of my broader artistic practice. Alongside styling, I expanded my work in creative direction, storytelling, and production. These experiences have also contributed to my personal growth, strengthening my communication skills. I regularly work across four languages — Portuguese, English, Spanish, and beginner-level French — and developed the ability to articulate my ideas in a clearly and cohesively manner but also to listen and give espace for others to have their voice.
In 2024, I continued my studies by enrolling in a Jewellery course at Ar.Co (Visual Arts School Workshops & Fine Arts Courses, Lisbon). This practice has further informed my work as a stylist, strengthening my understanding of how garments can be complemented, manipulated, and transformed through accessories, elements capable of shifting the entire narrative of an image.
My search for inspiration across different artistic disciplines is an ongoing exploration that fuels my creativity and informs my work in fashion. I firmly believe in continuously expanding my creative practice and nurturing my curiosity for all forms of expression.
